Frequently asked questions
Do I get full access to my database?
Yes, you can create your own roles, set your timezone, etc, all through plain SQL.
Is there a cap on the number of projects for the Free Tier?
Yes, on the Free Tier you can have a maximum of two organizations, each with up to two projects. This means that you can have a maximum of four free projects in your account.
When will I be billed?
Billing will go live from the 7th of April. Once live, we will give you 2 weeks notice to confirm you are happy to start paying for projects. For subsequent new projects on a paid tier you will be charged immediately.
How can I monitor my usage and billing?
You can view your usage and billing in your project settings on the Dashboard. (This will go live in a few days)
Can I cap my usage so my bill doesn't run over?
Not yet, however we do not "automatically" upgrade you. This is to prevent surprise bill spikes. We have soft limits which means that if you do go over we will not automatically bill you. We will reach out first to discuss moving up a tier.
What are soft limits?
Soft limits mean if you cross your usage tier we will let you know and give you a grace period without charging you for exceeding your limits. We will email you to discuss moving up a tier and you will not be charged until you agree to move up a tier. If you do not respond, or do not want to move up a tier and continue to exceed your limits then we may have to limit your projects' consumption.
How do I know which tier I need before I even finish building my project?
Start on the free tier and see what happens. We have soft limits and will reach out to you to let you know if you need to upgrade to a higher tier.
I'm worried I could end up with a huge bill at the end of the month.
Your bill will not automatically run over the tier you have selected. We will reach out first to discuss moving up a tier.
Is there a way for me to learn about Supabase without being billed?
Yes, you can use the free tier.

Will I hit any kind of API limits?
There are no API limits. For Free and Pro tiers we have allocated you a database which you can use as much as you need to within the resources listed for that tier.
What happens if I run over my limits for a feature?
We have a soft limits policy so we will reach out to you with a grace period for you to make a decision on your project and upgrading a tier. This means your application will remain live and you will not automatically be billed more.
Are you going to change your pricing in the future?
Our pricing is in Beta. You can read more about our decisions in our blog on pricing here. Pricing may change in the future, however as a team of developers we are committed to pricing being as developer friendly as possible.
I read that you are giving credits to users who sign up during beta, do I get those?
If you signed up before the 4th of April 2021 we will issue credits for the Pro tier. You can claim them by getting in touch via support@supabase.io.
What if I want to cancel my monthly subscription?
Simply delete your project within the Dashboard and your subscription will be cancelled.
Do I get a notification if I am approaching my usage limits?
Yes, we will email you when you are within 20% of your tier limits.
If I hit the resource limits for my tier what happens to my project? Does it shut down?
We have a soft limits policy so if you do run over we will reach out to you with a grace period for you to make a decision on your project and upgrading a tier. This means your project will remain live and you will not automatically be billed more.
If I exceed my limits, do I just get charged "Overage" for the items I use?
We have soft limits so we will reach out if you exceed resource limits on the Pro Tier. Your project plan will need to move to the Usage based pricing before we charge any usage pricing. We will work with you in advance to understand your project cost forecasts.
I need more than the Pro tier, what do I need to do?

I have special database requirements, can I request a larger server?

What happens if I need to transfer my project to someone else in the future?

Do you offer a free trial?
We offer a Free Tier, which has no time limit.
What kind of support will I receive?
Support depends on your tier. Free Tier: community support. Pro Tier: email support. Pay As You Go: dedicated support.
Do you offer discounts or deals for non-profits and educational institutions or students?
We have the free tier which you are welcome to take advantage of. If you need more than the free tier you can reach out to us here for our consideration of merit on a case by case basis.

Where can I find Privacy and Terms of Use information for Supabase?
What is the largest sized file I can deploy to storage?
A big cat like a Lion or Siberian tiger, also Ligers are fine. If you are using the hosted platform there is a 50MB limit.
Are there any limits for data egress?
For Free Tier the limit is 2GB, for Pro Tier it is 200GB. There are no limits on Pay as you Go.
What is the largest database I can deploy to the Free Tier? Is there a limit on the number of rows?
You can make a project with a 500 Mb Database and 1 GB File Storage on the Free Tier. You can fit as many rows as possible into the space provided.
What if I need one project for development and one for production?
We are working on multi-environment projects. For now, you can create a project for your development backend and production backend. We give you four free projects as part of our free tier. This means you could have two development and two production servers as part of your free tier.
